International Conference
"Impacts and their role in the Evolution of Life"
Tällberg, Siljan area, Sweden, 10 - 13 June 2019

The schedule of the conference can be downloaded as a .pdf file by clicking on this link.

General information
The conference programme will last from 10 June 2019 in the morning until 13 June 2019 in the evening. The aim of this meeting is to bring together leading researchers from different backgrounds (geologists, geophysicists, astronomers, geochemists, evolutionary biologists, and other researchers with an interest in impact studies) to discuss the influence that impact has had on the evolution of our planet and, possibly, on the emergence of life as well as to exchange recent advances in impact science regarding both terrestrial and planetary impacts. The following themes will be covered by the conference:

  • Impacts, the Early History of the Solar System and the Formation of the Moon
  • Late Accretion and Delivery of Volatiles to the (early) Earth
  • Physical and Chemical Characterisations of Impactors (meteorites, comets etc.)
  • Identification and Exploration of Impact Features
  • Atmospheric Chemistry and Impacts of Micrometeorites
  • Ecological and Climatic Consequences of Impacts
  • Impacts as Threats for Life and Humankind
  • Impact Craters and Impact Hydrothermal Systems as Habitats for Life
  • Geoconservation of Impact Areas
  • Impacts as Subjects for Science Education and Outreach

Thus, a broad range of impact related topics will be discussed during the meeting.

Deadline for abstract submission is 15 April 2019. For registration and hotel booking the deadline is 30 April 2019.

Early Career keynote speaker bursaries
Thanks to funding by Europlanet there will be up to 10 bursaries for both students and early career scientists whose first Ph.D. in a subject related to the conference theme has been later than 31 March 2011. Recipients of these bursaries will be invited to give a talk or a poaster and receive free accommodation in single rooms at Hotel Dalecarlia, free meals (breakfasts, lunches, coffee breaks and dinners) as well as free paricipation in the excursion. People wishing to appply for bursaries should mention this and the date of award of their Ph. D. when sending their abstract. Deadline for entering the competition and abstract submission has passed. The Scientific Committee will now select the recipients of the bursaries as soon as possible.

The event will take place at Hotel Dalecarlia, Tällberg, Sweden. Tällberg can be reached very conveniently by train from Stockholm Arlanda Airport and major Swedish cities. Please see the Venue & Access webpage for details.
