Venue The lectures will take place at: Estonian Biocenter Lectures take place at the Estonian Biocentre, Riia 26b in the main lecture room. The lecture room is equipped with a PowerPoint projector, audio equipment and overhead projector. If lecturers need some other technical devices, they should contact the organisers in good time. The venue of the poster session will be announced in due course. Meals For guests at the Hotel Dorpat will be served at the hotel. People at the Academus hostel can make their own breakfast at the room. Lunches and dinners will be in the restaurant of the Cafe Vilde if not announced seperately in the programme. The farewell dinner will be held in Hotel Dorpat also. Accommodation Participants will have the choice
between accommodation in single or shared double room at the Hotel Dorpat (en-suite bathrooms), or in hostel rooms at the Academus hostel (basic accommodation, en-suite bathrooms). Hotel Dorpat and Academus Hostel offer free wireless internet. Lecturers will be offered single room
accommodation in Hotel Dorpat.
Access to the the venue By air The best way is first to fly into Tallinn
Lennart Meri International Airport at Ülemiste (IATA code:
TLL). There are good and cheap connections to Tallinn from many
different European airports. Flights are offered by different airlines
directly as well as Air Baltic (via
Riga). The airport is very close to the city near Lake Ülemiste.
Coming from outside Europe you probably have to change at Frankfurt,
Amsterdam or London. Tartu has also limited flight connections to Helsinki on Sundays and Mondays (at time of writing). It is operated by Finnair and bookings can be made on Finnair homepage or through travel agents. By bus It is also possible to travel the whole way to the summer course by bus from Russia or Central Europe. An advantage is that these bused usually are very comfortable (often even with wireless internet on board) and also very cheap. The disadvantage is the long journey time. So these are an alternative only if you do come from St. Petersburg or Riga or want to combine your visit to the course with a trip to the Baltic. There are frequent and inexpensive bus services from St.Petersburg to Tartu. Lux Express is one of the operators. The travel between these cities takes 6-8 hours, and the company also operates services Warsaw-Riga-Tarrtu (22 hours) and Königsberg-Riga-Tartu. Another bus company offering coach travel to Estonia from many places in Europe is Ecolines. Arriving at the bus station you are almost in front of Hotel Dorpat. To go to Academus Hostel, walk back the road where the bus came in, passing the Statoil petrol station to your left. At the intersection turn right, at the next une left onto "Riia". After 600m you turn right onto "Pepleri". The hostel will be reached after 100m to your right (Pepleri 14). By train About 8 trains operate per day between Tallinn and Tartu, of which 5 are express trains. Trains are usually new and convenient.Arriving at Tartu, walk out of the station and turn right ont "Vaksali" road. After 300m turn left ont Vanemuise road. After walking straight for 700m turn right onto "Pepleri" if you want to go to Academus Hostel. The hostel is on the left after 50m. To continue to Hotel Dorpat walk on for another kilometre to the river and turn right. The hotel then is 200m further at the riverside. However, since the buses from Tallinn airport directly go to the hotel, I only recommend the rail journey if you hate going on buses and/or are a die-hard railway enthusiast.
