Research

Our past and planned research and training activities in the field of astrobiology include:

  1. work on analysis of Kepler Space Mission observational results. Three scientists of our institute (dr. R. Janulis, dr. E. Pakštienė, and G. Tautvaišienė) belong to the Kepler Asteroseismic Science Consortium

  2. search of exoplanets using asteroseismological observations with telescopes at our Molėtai Observatory. We are proud of our discovery of an exopanet near the evolved star V391 Pegasi (Slvoti et al. (R. Janulis) 2007, Nature, vol. 449, 189)

  3. quantum mechanical investigations of rotational contour and electronic transitions of  endrohedral and exohedral fullerenes and their cations (dr. J. Tamulienė)

  4. organizing of research training courses. The NordForsk funded course "Observational Stellar Astrophysics", which included training on search of exoplanets, we have organized at the Molėtai Observatory in 2008. An other such course "Observational Stellar Astrophysics in the Era of Gaia and Kepler Space Missions" will be held from July 28 to August 11, 2012 (coordinator G. Tautvaišienė)
